Last day

Today was the anthropologists last day here. The elders decided to make him an honorary Lunari! He decided to take part in the tournament finally, after everyone had bugged him to. Only after the events did he revival that he is a traveling hunter interested in the way other villages manage their guilds! He one day hopes to make a guild that the other guilds report to, as a way of keeping track of the happening in the world. Henestly i will miss him, i enjoyed learning more about my own culture in the time that he was here. Maybe someday i could join this guild of his, as a representative of the Lunari.

How we interact with each other

Today the anthropologist asked about how we manage space. there are many answers to this but here are the simplified versions. Our culture encourages closeness. during meals there is hardly any room between you and the next person, when talking with someone it is fine to be close to someone but just out of arms reach would probably be the best. If you pay attention you will notice that most of us use exaggerated arm movements to help explain things. The clothing around the village tends to be shades of blue and white, in honor of the moon. Most are loose fitting but comfortable. In the guild most where their armors to signify their accomplishments. Most armors are form fitting to allow easy movement. When a hunter of villages turns up dead, a day long mourning period is held. it is only a day long because the one in question would want you to move on and progress with the happy things in life. After the grieving process is done the loved one is striped of their armor and burned, in order to prevent sickness. after the burning is done the ashes are scattered in a area blessed by the moonlight, which is usually a open field area. Around the village you will sometimes come across statues or shrines to the moon, or you can go to the Hall that honors  previous hunters that either protected the village or accomplished something great.

Festivals, Events, And Information

Today marks the start of the hunter festival! It lasts two lunar cycles. villages from all around come here to participate in this festival, not only for information sharing but for a tournament. The Lu-ar festival celebrate the continued cycle of the moon, and the success of the guild. While this festival is going on villages from all around come to partake in the tournament, share information, and to just have a good time. Every day for the next two cycles a tournament is held to determine the best hunter among the villages present. Contests are held to help provide the answer to this question. Strength, agility, stamina, and cooperation are among some of the most popular. Our village is referred to by some as moon worshiping weaklings that do nothing but look up at the sky. They are mostly the younger generation of hunters from the other villages, but little do they know that a beat down  awaits them. The festival is also a hub of information, anything you want to know about anything is at your fingertips, you just have to know who to ask. Posted around the village are information boards where event details are posted. There are even empty places available for others to use during the festival. During this time the whole village is decorated with lunar symbols and monster decorations, blue and white are the most noticeable colors because they represent the moon. Over most of the festivals our village has had the best fighters, i hope one day to make it there as well.

Leaders

Today the anthropologist wanted to know about the political structure of the village. when no one knew what that meant he simply said; How do the elders run things? That question is easier to answer. In terms of village goings, the elders organize and set up everything such as events. When a fishing boat needs to go out and catch fish for the village and to trade, they go to the elders and tell them how long they should be gone for, in case of emergency. When it comes to monsters and requests that the elders can not handle they appoint a guild leader. The guild leader then takes those request and splits them up into ranks for the members to do. once every two lunar cycles the elders hold a meeting where they ask the villagers if there is anything that needs attention, whether it be building repair, requests, or anything else. At any time there are usually seven to ten elders that are in charge. The elders that are in charge are decided at the meetings.

Class

Today the anthropologist wanted to know about classes and if we had a class system. The only place with a class system is the guild. While being any rank is fine there are some hunters that talk down to other hunters for being a lower rank than them. They will say things like, You are just a crescent! A scar! what do you know, Nothing! That's what! If this happens in the guild the guild leader usually gets after that person and scolds they pointing out that they were once a scar like the other hunter, followed by words of encouragement to the younger hunter. In terms of any class outside of the guild, it would really just be the chain of command. Elders, Guild Leader, Villagers and Merchants, Children, and lastly Travelers. Everyone in the village is treated equally in terms of gender. In fact the best elder we had was a man and the best guild leader so far was a very accomplished woman hunter.

Slang

Most of our slang comes from the guild or the moon.

Ranks:
New Moon- Newbys, Term for beginners, as well as for when a experienced hunter makes a mistake.
Use Example: Welcome to the Guild, you will start as a Newby.
Crescent- Scars, Term for the below average hunters, this rank is where they start getting tested.
Use Example: In this rank you will be tested against the starting monsters, you will get scars and will be know as such for now.
Quarter- Halfies, Intermediately skilled hunters, they are able to fight some of the tougher monsters.
Use Example:: Ha, your just a halfie, what do you know.
Gibbous- Rays, Skilled hunters, able to fight of high rank monster, skilled material gatherers.
Use Example: Welcome to the higher ranks, to the village you will be known as rays of hope.
Full Moon- Lunaris, The best of the best in the village, able to take on the toughest missions avalible.
Use Example: Guild Leader there are reports of Giant Wyverns headed towards the village. Ill send some Lunaris to solve the problem.

Monsters running: Bailing, when a monster runs away.
Use Example: Hey its bailing! After it!

what our sayings expose about us

Today the anthropologist was talking about how each cultures sayings expose things about the culture. For us we tend to have a lot of sayings revolving around guild events and also many about the moon. As i brought up before a lot of sayings reflect the things we see in the monsters we hunt. Your meaner than a Cat Wyvern speaks to the aggression of the creature. Your hungrier than a Blue Bear speaks to the hunger it has for honey. There goes a pack of raptors speaks to how the Giant Raptor hunts. The saying, the Moon always comes around, means do not worry you will get another chance or there is always tomorrow. The Saying, Be calm like the Moon, means calm down and focus. i have mentioned these before but these were the most common that i heard growing up.

Technology and language

With the advancement of technology our language has started getting alittle more complex. Each year technological advancement requires more knowledge on how to improve our weapons for fighting the monsters, especially the extremely big ones. Usually we send the blacksmiths to a meeting between various towns to exchange items and knowledge. With every new and improved item brought back we need to learn a few more things, such as new ways to make the items or new materials we have not yet used. And depending on the person sometimes one of us goes and learns from other places and comes back with knowledge of how to do many new things

mood, emotion, and beliefs

Today the anthropologist asked about how our language express things like mood emotion, and our beliefs. I have mentioned before about how we have integrated parts of the guild speech into daily use and how we have a few saying having to do with the moon. as far as mood and emotion it seems to be the same as other cultures and villages, through the tone of the voice and the use of  body language. Due to our roots if you talk to any person you will most likely hear about that persons likes and dislikes. our village is pretty open about what they say to one another. there are not really any arguments that lead to fights as everyone's pretty accepting.

Where our language came from

The founders of the village came from a line of moon worshipers that believed that the moon purifies everything throughout its cycles, which brought about new beginnings. When our founders first settled here, the surrounding areas were out of control with monsters. When they founded the guild they believed that they were doing the moons work by purifying the surrounding area making it safe to live in. how ever through the years we have stopped hunting as furiously for fear of killing off an entire species. while they were clearing out monsters in the area that was to be where we live we still wanted to live with the monsters as best azs we could, so a rule was put up that only the monsters wreaking havoc can be hunted, which was called purified many lunar cycles ago.

Language from our culture

While there are other professions in the village, the guild has the most effect on our language. Many things are centered around the monsters that need to be hunted. You will hear many sayings like; that person is meaner than a Cat Wyvern, or your hungrier than a Blue Bear. Say someone is walking around with their freinds and someone sees that, they may refer to them as a group of raptors in relation to the hunting style of the Giant Raptor. For us the moon has always been a sign of new beginnings, so we have sayings like; don't worry the moon always comes around, or be calm like the moon, both meaning not to worry and calm down there is always tomorrow, and to focus. In fact our guild as with our language, which has been around since the founding of our village, is even named for the moon. The guild is called the Lu-ar which means the moon.

Language

Today the anthropologist wanted to talk about our language. More specifically he wanted to talk about how children learn our language. In our language called Lu-ar, it is up to the parents to teach their children the basic speaking skills that they will need until they learn more through the elders that the child chooses to learn from. We utilize apprentice styles of learning, meaning that the specific words that they need to know will come from the elders. So say someone wants to become a hunter. They will have to get approval from the guild leader. If they are approved, the guild leader will then proceed to teach the children well into the higher ranks of hunting. In a way they will never stop learning because you need words for everything in order to communicate exactly what you want to say to someone. For our village learning language is very much linked to the jobs and activities that someone partakes in. Throughout the childs growth from a baby the parents are to communicate with them from birth to adulthood as equals, it is looked down upon if you talk down to the younger generation, unless they need scolding. While they are babys and just communicate through simple noises like cooing or baby talk, most parents explain what the child is pointing at so that they may learn what the object is.

Guild Colaboration

Our guild is special in the way that we are the only guild that is used between a few villages. While the Guild is situated in our village it is shared between the two surrounding smaller villages. Normally villages have their own guild, but the other villages find it easier to bring their problems, the things they were not able to do. When the anthropologist asked about world views i could only think about the cooperation between our villages. in the time that i have been alive i dont think there have been any conflicts between our village and any other village. In fact we all share a hate for the monsters.

Guild System

Our guild system is run by a guild leader selected by the elders of the village. The guild leader is usually a accomplished hunter, only once or twice has it been a tact-tition. When requests come in, they are viewed by the leader and split into five ranks of difficulty. New Moon Rank for beginners, Crescent Rank, Quarter Rank, Gibbous Rank, and Full Moon Rank for experts.Within the ranks the missions are split into categories.

Blood Moon Missions: These missions are missions where hunters have died trying to complete. These include Blue Moon missions, Eclipse, and Harvest Moon missions. Generally this happens when another monster roams into the area while a hunter was preoccupied.

Blue Moon Missions: These missions are the missions that a hunter has to do to move onto a new rank of difficulty. These are usually composed of eclipse type missions with the exception of the harvest mission for the progression from New Moon to Crescent rank.

Eclipse Missions: These are Monster hunting missions. Aside from the four monsters shown, there are alittle more than twenty different types of aggressive monsters, and around five giant types of monsters.

Harvest Moon Missions: These are material and resource gathering missions. These range anywhere from herb gathering to fishing, to material mining.

Picture of the surrounding area and some monsters

Area around our village, it is heavily populated with monsters. Very bountiful area. Tropical jungle, very dense foliage, plentiful fish, and slightly mountainous.

Blue Bear: creature found in the forested area, goes after honey, usually timid unless provoked. Attack patters usually consist of all out attacks or hit and run tactics. When it is enraged its attacks become much stronger.

Green Wyvern: Very aggressive, especially around its nest area. Tail spikes have poison on them, very toxic. Can shoot fireballs. Capable of flying, but prefers ground combat. When provoked smoke comes out of its mouth and its fire balls split into three directions.

Giant Raptor: Usually travels in packs consisting of three to five smaller raptors. Pack is coordinated through a complex call system. Mildly aggressive, but easily provoked if approached. When provoked it cordinates its underlings to attack its enemy.

Green Cat-like Wyvern: Very aggressive, actively solo hunts, very sensitive hearing. Due to its green color it is easily camouflages itself in the environment. Likes to play with its food, its behavior is very similar to a feline. Can shoot spikes for its tail. When provoked its eyes glow red and its speed increases.

Values and Norms of the Village

Today he asked about our norms and values. Specifically why we rank our guild system with moon symbols. It was a question i wanted to know the answer to as well, we also base our language system off the phases as well. The guild master and elders looked at each other and simply said; "The moon always brings something new, the cycle always renews itself. simply there is always something new to learn." Hunts are a sort of right of passage, when someone becomes able to move onto the next rank they are sent on a higher level task, usually a hunt or a gathering task in a dangerous area. These higher ranked progression missions are called Blue Moon missions for special requests, Hunts are called Eclipse missions, and Gatherings are called Harvest Moon Missions. Blood moon is only rated for when someone does not survive a mission. We rely on the hunts we do for trade. Monster parts and materials usually fetch a good price, we also trade fish caught in Crescent cove, which is the main cove in our village.

How we view the world

Today the anthropologist asked a strange question. How do you view the world? And I had never really though about it. Unfortunately I was not allowed to join in the conversation this time, maybe something happened recently. However usually we are at good terms with everyone as there are never really any fights between the villages. We take the problems they give us and solve them through our guild system. Generally Monster hunt request are the only things that come in. Sometimes we get fishing missions, material gathering, or other things that need doing.

Where we live

Today the anthropologist was discussing the area we live in. Our village is in a tropical cove area, beautiful sandy beaches, lush jungles, and the hunting and fishing is very bountiful. However while it is a very beautiful area, there are giant monsters around the village. Our village thrives on hunting the monsters and trading the spoils. We also get frequent requests from the other villages to hunt the monsters that they can not handle. We run a guild system where the elders manage the requests and post them for the people of the village to take. They rank the missions by moon phases, New Moon, Crescent Moon, Quarter Moon, Gibbous Moon, and Full Moon. New for beginners and Full for the most experienced. All of this is run by a guild master chosen by the elders.

Starting today I will be keeping this journal of my clan

Someone called an anthropologist came today and had a lot of questions about our clan, it made me realize that I know very little. So I will be following around the anthropologist, collecting information and recording it here.
However what i do know is that we, our clan, take a lot from the moon.
